life on the campaign trail

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you about my utter devotion and love for democracy….

…But working on Congressman Jim Himes’ reelection campaign was a whole new way for me to learn about how we express our voices as “We The People”. Life on the campaign trail blessed me with the profound opportunity to have a tangible effect on galvanizing people to vote. I’m so emotionally overwhelmed by the difference I personally had in getting Democrats into seats and passing Early Voting in the state of Connecticut.

Campaigns are so consuming. The days are long and it can be exhausting. But considering how much fun I had, it didn’t always feel like work. And more than anything else, it was incredibly inspiring. I’m still so struck by the opportunity I had to meet so many people who feel this visceral call to participate in a larger purpose. I reveled in talking directly to voters about the issues they face on daily basis. It was thrilling to become personally close with candidates and lawmakers that I deeply believe in. Being involved in their journeys has given me a new sense of pride. And plus, I got to talk about policy and politics all day long…what could be better than that?!

I’m so proud of all the candidates I worked so closely with; incumbents and insurgents alike. As I watched the election results roll in, I was so moved by the effect Democrats had locally to nationally. And we passed Early Voting in the state of Connecticut after being 1 of 4 states without it!! Knowing I made a tangible difference in this historic election, will be a powerful thought I’ll carry with me forever.

Democracy prevailed and the voters made it clear, we’re eager for progress.

We want empathy in our discourse, we want to protect our neighbors, and we care about the sanctity of “One Voice, One Vote”. And I have complete faith that with all the seats we gained, and even the races that we narrowly lost, we’re on the right path to a more representative and robust democracy.

Thank you all for voting. And next election cycle, I hope you’ll consider getting involved in the rewarding work.
