Mitigating Nurse Shortages by Incentivizing Men
I am suggesting that Governor Hochul use the $10 billion to increase wages for nurses to incentivize men to join the field, as only 11.5% of nurses are men in New York. I used a linear regression model to show a strong correlation between higher than median wage and more shares of men in nursing by state. Incentivizing more men could decrease staff shortages, resulting in less nurse turnover and lower patient mortality rates.

Behavioral Economic Nudges and Gender Discrimination
I believe behavioral economic “nudges”, have the power to influence our society to combat harmful social norms around gender discrimination. Small changes in our culture can lead us down the path of progress and change. While important, policy change cannot be the only method we lean on in this fight for equality. Only when we dismantle social norms and adjust biased behavior will any true headway be made.
